Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a package of constitutional laws introducing wide-ranging changes to the state governance system, including the creation of the vice president post, SİA informs via Kazinform.
Under the law "On the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the vice president will represent the head of state's interests in interactions with government bodies and carry out other functions assigned by the president.
Another law establishes the Kurultai (Assembly), the country's supreme representative and legislative body, composed of 145 deputies elected for five years via party lists. The Kurultai will have powers to approve key appointments, endorse budget execution reports, and set presidential election dates.
In addition, the Kazakhstan People's Council has been created as a high-level advisory body to ensure nationwide dialogue and civil society participation in shaping domestic policy. The council will have the right to initiate legislation and propose nationwide referendums.
Tokayev also signed constitutional laws regulating the status of the capital and the administrative-territorial structure, covering governance, development, and procedures for creating or altering administrative units.
