Oil tankers carrying Iraqi crude transit Strait of Hormuz with tracking systems turned off
In the first ten days of May, three oil tankers carrying Iraqi crude left the Strait of Hormuz with their tracking systems switched off in order to avoid potential attacks by Iran.
According to SİA, citing Reuters, the vessels disabled their transponders during transit.
Two very large crude carriers (VLCCs), Agios Fanourios I and Kiara M, passed through the strait on May 10 with tracking systems turned off, each carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil.
The Agios Fanourios I is heading to Vietnam, where it is scheduled to unload oil at the Nghi Son refinery and petrochemical complex on May 26. The vessel had previously attempted at least twice to transit the strait after loading Basrah Medium crude on April 17 but was unsuccessful.
Earlier, on May 1, another VLCC tanker, Basrah Energy, loaded 2 million barrels of oil and also passed through the Strait of Hormuz with its tracking system disabled.
