The US Senate rejected a resolution demanding that the US administration be prohibited from using military force against Iran without congressional permission, according to the voting broadcast by C-SPAN.
During the procedural vote, 47 senators voted in favor of the document, while 52 voted against it. To be approved by the upper house of Congress, which is controlled by the Republican Party, the document needed a simple majority of lawmakers to support it during the procedural and final votes. A vote on a similar resolution is expected Thursday in the House of Representatives, which is also controlled by the party of President Donald Trump.
The Washington Post previously predicted that these documents would unlikely receive support from the Congress. Even if they are approved by the Congress, the president has the right to veto them.
