Israel launches new strikes on Gaza following Trump’s ceasefire proposal

Israel conducted fresh airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Saturday, just hours after former U.S. President Donald Trump called for a ceasefire and proposed a plan to halt the ongoing conflict, SİA reports.

Local authorities in Gaza reported that six people were killed in the strikes, including four members of a single family in Gaza City and two others in the southern city of Khan Younis, according to health workers and municipal officials.

The latest escalation comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war. Earlier, Trump announced that the militant group Hamas had agreed in principle to release hostages and consider key elements of a U.S.-backed ceasefire framework.

Israeli forces had reportedly paused their operations in Gaza, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel was prepared to implement the first phase of Trump’s proposal, focused on securing the release of all Israeli hostages held in the enclave.

Hamas also issued a statement signaling its readiness to release all Israeli hostages and engage in negotiations over the terms of a ceasefire based on Trump’s plan. The group, which governs the Gaza Strip, said it was willing to discuss the proposal’s details, marking a potential opening for diplomatic engagement.

Despite those signals, the renewed Israeli airstrikes underscore the fragile nature of any potential truce. The situation on the ground remains volatile, with both sides trading accusations and expressing skepticism about each other’s intentions.

As ceasefire talks continue behind closed doors, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens, and international observers warn that the window for a negotiated resolution may be narrowing rapidly.
