Escalating Israeli strikes on Qatar, Lebanon, Yemen, and other parts of the Middle East have prompted Arab leaders to consider the creation of a joint military coalition capable of countering Tel Aviv, SİA reports, citing foreign media.
The issue was a central focus at an emergency summit in Doha, where participants discussed mechanisms to collectively respond to the growing regional threat.
Egypt, which maintains the largest military force in the region, proposed establishing a coordination center in Cairo. Pakistan, the only Muslim nation with a nuclear arsenal, suggested forming a working group to monitor Israel’s actions. These steps reflect heightened concern among Arab nations about Israel’s recent operations.
Yet experts caution that deep-seated divisions and competing national interests could hinder efforts to form a unified alliance. Political analyst Vladimir Kireyev noted that priorities vary widely across the region: Egypt is focused on Sinai and Gaza, Gulf states on Iran and the conflict in Yemen, Jordan on its borders and economic stability, and Morocco and Tunisia on internal terrorism and instability in the Sahel.
Several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Jordan, maintain diplomatic ties with Israel and rely on U.S.-provided air and missile defense systems, further complicating potential cooperation. Retired Colonel and political commentator Andrey Pinchuk highlighted the historical difficulties of Arab military coalitions, noting that past efforts from the mid-20th century through the Arab Spring largely failed to achieve cohesion or effectiveness.
From a Russian perspective, analyst Vladimir Soloveichik suggested that a coordinated bloc could be beneficial, enabling shared procurement of weapons, munitions, and technical maintenance, while potentially enhancing Russia’s strategic role through its military bases in Syria. He cautioned, however, that the success of any such coalition would hinge on financial commitments, organizational coordination, and sustained cooperation among participating states.
