Chisinau is reportedly preparing to expel a Belarusian diplomat from the country, following allegations of espionage, SİA reports citing IPN.
The diplomat from the Belarusian embassy in Moldova has been declared persona non grata, though Moldovan authorities have yet to confirm the decision officially.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has neither confirmed nor denied the reports in response to IPN inquiries. The exact reasons for the diplomat’s expulsion remain unclear.
The incident comes shortly after the questioning of Alexandru Balan, a former deputy head of Moldova’s Information and Security Service (SIS), who is accused of revealing state secrets to Belarusian State Security Committee (DTK) officials. Romanian authorities reported that Balan met with DTK operatives in Budapest on two occasions ( in 2024 and 2025), allegedly transmitting classified information for financial compensation.
Earlier this week, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland had arrested a Belarusian spy and was preparing to expel a diplomat accused of supporting “Belarusian state aggression” against Poland.
The Czech Foreign Ministry also confirmed that a Belarusian diplomat suspected of espionage had been expelled from the country.
