China’s top diplomat heads to Poland amid regional tensions

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel to Austria, Slovenia, and Poland from September 12 to 16, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced, SİA reports.

According to ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, the visit aims to strengthen cooperation and discuss key issues in bilateral relations as well as the broader international situation.

Polish outlet rmf24.pl reported that on September 15, Wang is scheduled to meet with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.

The Chinese diplomat’s visit to Poland comes at a time of heightened tensions along the country’s eastern border. Simultaneously, Russia and Belarus are conducting their “West-2025” military maneuvers, which Polish authorities have described as “aggressive.” In response, Warsaw has decided to completely close the border with Belarus, including road and rail crossings.

The Polish town of Małaszewicze, a key gateway for Chinese freight trains into the European Union (EU), plays an important role in China-Europe trade. Roughly 90 percent of China Railway Express shipments either pass through or terminate in Poland.
