More than 50% of Poles are against Warsaw's support for Ukraine's accession to NATO
The share of those who are against Poland's support for Ukraine's accession to NATO is significantly higher among people over 50.
The share of Poles who are against Poland's support for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration has grown to almost 53%. This is evidenced by a survey by IBRiS commissioned by the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
When asked whether Poland should support Ukraine's accession to NATO, only 33.5% answered "yes". At the same time, 52.7% were against support, and another 13.8% were undecided.
The media outlet notes that the respondents' opinions mainly depend on their political sympathies. For example, among supporters of the ruling parties, 59% gave positive answers, while voters who supported the opposition Law and Justice, the far-right Confederation, and Razo were mostly against (in this group, 74% were against).
The share of those who oppose Poland's support for Ukraine's accession to NATO is significantly higher among people over 50, rural residents (62%), people without higher education (71%) and mainly those who consider their financial situation unsatisfactory (91%).
In a survey conducted by IBRiS in August 2023 on behalf of Rzeczpospolita, 47.7% of respondents did not agree with Ukraine's immediate accession to NATO, while 40% would approve of such a decision. The study surveyed 1,069 respondents.
As a reminder, the administration of Polish President Karol Nawrocki emphasized the need for Kiev to resolve historical contradictions and added that without specific actions by Ukraine in this direction, it will be difficult to achieve progress in bilateral relations.
