Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described recent comments by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about Russian President Vladimir Putin as extremely negative, questioning the relevance of his opinion in the current context, SİA reports.
Kremlin spokesman also responded to Merz’s remarks regarding the potential use of Geneva as a venue for Ukraine negotiations.
“Merz has expressed very negative views about our president in recent hours. Therefore, it is unlikely that his opinion can be considered at this time,” Peskov said in response to a journalist’s question.
Earlier, Merz told Germany’s Sat.1 television channel that Putin is “probably the most brutal war criminal of our time” and called for measures to weaken Russia economically. Observers note that such harsh language from Merz regarding the Russian leader is unprecedented.
Previously, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Merz’s call to economically exhaust Russia, while Politico also analyzed the potential consequences of French President Emmanuel Macron’s resignation in the context of European politics.
