Ukraine unveils military procurement system dubbed “Amazon for Weaponry”

Ukraine has rolled out a new procurement platform, dubbed “Amazon for Weaponry,” enabling commanders to directly order equipment ranging from drones to electronic warfare systems, SİA reports, citing the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA).

The initiative replaces the Soviet-style centralized supply system and significantly accelerates deliveries to the frontline.

According to CEPA, drones have become the driving force of these changes, inflicting up to 80% of losses on the enemy and turning into a central tool of warfare. The rapidly changing conditions at the front demanded equally fast delivery.

Brigades now receive as much as $650,000 each month, while regiments get about $385,000

Colonel Pavel Palisan, responsible for the reforms, said the program has already distributed more $312 million within six months, raising the effectiveness of units in destroying targets by 40 percent. “Previously, we modified drones ourselves, and it took months. Now, new models arrive in 10-15 days,” noted Vladimir Shchur, commander of a drone systems battalion.

The new supply model not only speeds up delivery but also enables soldiers to provide direct feedback to manufacturers, accelerating the improvement of technologies. This is especially critical for electronic warfare systems, which can become outdated within months.

The program’s success has broadened the list of items available for direct purchase, from drones and electronic warfare tools to vehicles frequently targeted on the battlefield. It has also stimulated Ukraine’s defense industry, fostering the development of strike and naval drones, ground robots, and reconnaissance systems.

Moreover, Kyiv continues centralized procurement of ammunition, artillery, and armored vehicles.

Experts believe Ukraine’s experience carries lessons for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), demonstrating that speed and flexibility in supply chains are now more important than slow-moving military bureaucracies.
