Erdogan held talks with both Zelensky and Putin
Turkey is in favor of "gradually raising the level of negotiations" to turn hopes for peace into concrete results, Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian ruler Vladimir Putin are not ready for a bilateral meeting to end the war. This was reported by Reuters on Tuesday, September 2.
It is indicated that Erdogan spoke to journalists on board the plane, returning from China, where he met with Putin, and then, according to him, called Zelensky. After that, he said that the Ukrainian leaders "are not yet ready" to hold a bilateral meeting.
At the same time, he emphasized that the talks of recent months between Russian and Ukrainian officials in Istanbul showed that the path to peace remains open.
Erdogan added that Turkey is in favor of "gradually raising the level of negotiations" to turn hopes for peace into concrete results.
"Any initiative will ultimately have to be considered at the level of leaders, although the conditions have not yet been created," the agency quotes Erdogan as saying.
Recall that on August 30, US President Donald Trump confirmed the possibility of holding trilateral talks to end the war in Ukraine together with Zelensky and Putin.
And President Volodymyr Zelensky named five countries that are ready to become a platform for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin denied the agreement on a trilateral meeting of the leaders.
