Figures leading Kremlin’s propaganda machine seek to undermine peace initiatives

Key figures at the helm of the Kremlin’s propaganda machine—such as Russian MP and former general Andrey Gurulyov, and provocative TV host Vladimir Solovyov—are openly sowing discord among regional populations and attempting to discredit peace initiatives through their public statements, political commentator Ulviyya Zulfugar told Report.

She noted that the remarks made by these individuals often expose the “bare face” of policies that are typically veiled in diplomatic language:

“The Azerbaijani people have not forgotten the recent past—from the massacre of civilians by Soviet troops in Baku on January 20, 1990, to the tragic loss of lives when an AZAL passenger plane was shot down. In all these cases, there has either been silence or attempts to evade responsibility.”

Zulfugar emphasized that forces creating artificial obstacles at this stage must step aside and refrain from disrupting the process:

“The peace process is a foundation for the region’s future development. Anyone with a rational political mindset should view it through this lens. Unfortunately, the aggressive rhetoric being displayed clearly reveals who supports peace and who prefers to remain a source of regional tension.”

She concluded by stating that the best response to this manufactured tension is the signing of a real and lasting peace agreement.
