Prosecutor General: Russia doesn’t inform Azerbaijan about specific results on AZAL plane crash in Aktau
Russia does not provide Azerbaijan with specific results regarding the shooting down of the AZAL plane and its crash in Aktau, Kazakhstan, according to Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, who is on a visit to Ankara, Report informs.
He said that since the AZAL plane went down near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan has been in constant contact with the Russian Investigative Committee and has been sending letters:
"So far, they are not providing us with specific results, citing the ongoing examinations, continuing investigation, and implementation of investigative actions. However, we ourselves have sufficient evidence from the initial stage of the investigation. We are both well-informed about the circumstances of the incident and have collected all the necessary evidence. We are coordinating our activities with the Kazakh side.
As soon as the plane went down near the city of Aktau, the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan initiated a criminal case under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. At the same time, the Kazakh side, and later the Russian Investigative Committee, also initiated criminal cases. So currently, the criminal facts are being investigated in three countries. One might ask why criminal cases have been opened in three countries for one incident? Because it is an issue that affects the interests of all three countries in one way or another. It is known that during that incident, there were both fatalities and people who suffered various degrees of bodily injuries among the citizens of all three countries. For this reason, we are cooperating with both the Russian Investigative Committee and Kazakhstan."
Aliyev also highlighted that they have been in contact with the Brazilian Prosecutor's Office from the early stages.
"As you know, the aircraft was manufactured in Brazil. In any case, we hope that the Russian side will provide us with information about the progress of the investigation and specific results, as well as the prosecution of those who committed the crime (although we are not saying it was done intentionally) in a short period of time. If this does not happen, then as Mr. President [Azerbaijani president – ed] said, ‘we have the right to file a claim in International courts,’" the Prosecutor General added.
