Euronews covers Baku conference on combating Islamophobia

Euronews prepared a story about the third international conference on combating Islamophobia that took place in Baku under the theme Unveiling Bias and Shattering Stigmas, SİA informs.

According to Euronews, the forum addressed the rise of anti-Muslim sentiment worldwide. Speakers highlighted the role of social media, rising far-right ideologies, and misinformation in fuelling discrimination.

The event promoted interfaith dialogue, cooperation, and global action, including a new digital observatory to track Islamophobia. Azerbaijan’s leadership called for unity and implementation of UN resolutions, stressing the need for shared solutions to protect human rights and uphold religious tolerance.

"Azerbaijan welcomes the resolutions on combating Islamophobia adopted by the UN General Assembly and calls for the immediate implementation of all measures envisaged in those resolutions," Euronews says.

"New forms of Islamophobia based on racism, discrimination and hatred are emerging and social media and certain media outlets are contributing a lot. Unfortunately, we will see that a tendency of radicalism and extremism in a different part of the world and currents and crises and conflicts are also contributing a lot," says the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and head of the Department of Foreign Policy of the Presidential Administration, Hikmat Hajiyev, as quoted by Euronews.

The event hosted over 120 foreign guests, including scholars from 40 countries, who came together with a universal call for the protection of human rights, tolerance and social justice. "The forum was not a religious one, but nonetheless brought together many multi-faith leaders from around the globe, sharing their solidarity on the importance of coexistence and social harmony," says Jane Witherspoon of Euronews.
