BFMTV: French authorities failed to pay for defense orders worth €8B

The French Ministry of the Armed Forces must pay off its 8 billion euros in debts on defense orders by the end of the year, SİA informs referring to the BFMTV channel.

This concerns "military equipment that was ordered from defense companies but has not yet been paid for."

The channel notes that defense enterprises "are sounding the alarm, since the country is rearming on credit." Concern about unpaid bills was expressed, in particular, by Airbus and Thales.

"Although the law on military planning adopted by the French parliament in 2024 provides for the allocation of 413 billion euros for rearmament until 2030, part of the budget has already been spent, since 99 billion euros will go to fulfill previous obligations," BFMTV added.

The channel believes that there may not be much money left for new orders. On April 14, Minister of Economy, Finance, Industrial and Digital Sovereignty Eric Lombard called France's public debt, which amounts to 3.3 trillion euros, excessive.
