Azerbaijan and the EU have agreed to continue regular exchange of views on foreign policy and security issues, including the potential for deepening cooperation in the energy and transport sectors, reads a statement by the EU External Action service following the 6th round of the EU-Azerbaijan Security Dialogue held in Brussels on May 22, according to SİA.
"The participants had a frank and constructive exchange on the state of the EU-Azerbaijan bilateral relations, as well as on topical foreign and security policy issues of mutual interest. They welcomed recent high-level engagements demonstrating the shared interest of parties to open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
The EU and Azerbaijan agreed to continue regular exchanges on foreign and security policy issues including on the potential of deepening cooperation in energy and transport connectivity. The EU underlined the vital role of regional cooperation. Azerbaijan reiterated that the EU was its biggest trade partner.
The EU highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan’s reliable gas supply for EU’s energy security. The parties also underlined the importance of meaningful work on all relevant strands of bilateral cooperation under the EU-Azerbaijan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. As host of COP29, Azerbaijan furthermore underlined its commitment and ambitions to increase renewable energy.
Azerbaijan expressed its appreciation for the EU’s support to demining efforts of Azerbaijan. The EU highlighted its readiness to explore EU instruments that may contribute to reconstruction works. Azerbaijan reiterated its official request in the European Peace Facility.
The participants discussed the next steps in the process of normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The meeting was co-chaired by Olof Skoog, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs at the European External Action Service, and Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan," reads the press release.
