Le Figaro: Macron losing society's trust, his chance for political future

The majority of France's population negatively evaluates Emmanuel Macron's eight-year presidency and does not want him to return to the Elysee Palace in 2032, SİA informs via Le Figaro newspaper.

According to the results of a public opinion poll conducted by Odoxa-Backbone Consulting company at the request of the newspaper on May 14-15, 71% of 1,000 French participants evaluated his performance negatively.

Thus, public distrust of the head of state has increased by 19 percentage points since March 2022, when he was elected for a second term.

According to Erwan Lestrohan, consulting director at Odoxa, the negative reaction was provoked by the pension reform adopted by bypassing the parliamentary vote, as well as the dissolution of the government last summer, which was "rejected and misunderstood" by society.

The newspaper noted that even the three-hour interview given by the French president on TF1 television channel on the evening of May 13 did not help tip the scales in his favor.

Moreover, although Macron stated at the end of the interview that he had not yet thought about the next elections in 2032 (he cannot run for a third consecutive term in 2027), 84% of respondents said they did not want to see him among the candidates. As for whether he will take this step, slightly more - 60% think it will not happen, while 39% do not rule out such a possibility.
