Currently, 11 individuals accused of committing human trafficking crimes (1 less compared to 2023) are still being internationally searched through Interpol channels, this was reflected in the Annual Report of the National Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking (2024), which was discussed today at the joint meeting of the Human Rights, Legal Policy and State Building Committees of the Milli Majlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan), SİA reports.
It was noted that in the reporting year, 30 individuals (9 more than in 2023) were locally wanted for crimes including human trafficking (15 cases), involvement in acts of a sexual nature, operating brothels, involving minors in acts contrary to public morality, and the illegal distribution of pornographic materials or objects and 16 individuals of these individuals (7 more than in 2023), including 3 human traffickers (2 fewer than in 2023), were detained and handed over to criminal prosecution authorities.
The countries in which these individuals were hiding and other necessary information about them were obtained, and relevant requests for their extradition were submitted in accordance with the provisions of bilateral and multilateral mutual legal assistance agreements.
