Kazakhstan plans to increase container traffic volume along Middle Corridor to 10M tons

Kazakhstan plans to increase the volume of container freight transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route to 10 million tons by 2027, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the EU-Central Asia summit, Report's correspondent from Samarkand informs.

He noted that last year the volume of container transportation along the Middle Corridor increased by 62%, amounting to 4.5 million tons.

Tokayev also noted readiness to increase exports to EU countries across 175 commodity items worth more than $2 billion.

"Kazakhstan accounts for about 13% of EU oil imports, most of which goes through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. We highly value the EU for the stable and long-term operation of the CPC and are simultaneously developing alternative routes for raw material transportation," he said.

The president of Kazakhstan also supported the EU's Global Gateway Initiative, which promotes the expansion of sustainable transport connections in the Central Asia region.
