NYT: Biden, Putin maintained communications channels after war in Ukraine started
After the start of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Joe Biden maintained indirect communication channels, although they didn't communicate directly, SİA informs referring to The New York Times (NYT).
Moscow and Washington interacted at various departmental levels.
For instance, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan "quietly initiated a series of calls" to Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov.
During one of these calls, the American official made it clear that the US held Russia responsible for the situation involving explosive devices being sent through courier services.
The article also indicates that CIA Director William Burns discussed this issue with Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergei Naryshkin and FSB Chief Alexander Bortnikov. The American side assumed that these Russian officials were in regular contact with the Russian president.
