Tokayev: Transfer of black boxes of plane crashed in Aktau to Brazil - only correct decision for impartial investigation

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the transfer of the flight recorders of the plane that crashed in Aktau to Brazil for decoding is the only correct decision to ensure the impartiality of the investigation.

Tokayev made the remark in an interview with the newspaper "Ana Tili".

"The government commission has decided to send the flight recorders to Brazil, where the aircraft was manufactured, for decoding. I am confident that this is the only correct decision to ensure the objectivity and impartiality of the investigation," the Kazakh leader said.

Tokayev noted that in today's troubled world, the number of man-made and natural disasters is growing, and not all countries, including developed ones, are ready for them, but compared to other countries, Kazakhstan looks decent in terms of responding to emergency situations.

A plane of an Azerbaijani airline crashed in the Mangistau region at the end of December. The tragedy claimed the lives of 38 people, including six citizens of Kazakhstan, and many people were seriously injured.

"In such situations, every second counts. Our rescuers, doctors, and police officers acted promptly, in a coordinated manner, and demonstrated professionalism and civic responsibility. The employees of the Mangistau Regional Electric Grid Company, who were near the scene of the tragedy, immediately came to the aid of the victims. Local residents did not stand aside either. Thanks to such dedication of our citizens, the maximum possible number of lives were saved. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who took part in the rescue work," the president of Kazakhstan emphasized.

He added that the solidarity and sympathy of the Kazakh people for the victims of the air crash is evidenced by the fact that the Kazakh citizens rushed to donate blood en masse.

A Government Commission has been created to investigate the causes of the air crash. In addition, 17 international experts have been invited, including from ICAO and IAC.
