Finland and Sweden Plan Ministerial Meeting Boycott in Hungary Over Viktor Orban's Moscow Visit
According to "Helsingin Sanomat," Finland and Sweden intend to boycott EU ministerial meetings in Hungary in protest against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's recent visit to Moscow.
The newspaper reports that on Thursday, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Swedish President Ulf Kristersson agreed to refrain from sending ministers or state secretaries to Budapest for EU meetings, SIA reports.
The boycott is contingent upon Hungary's actions and may extend until the end of July.
Politico magazine adds that during Thursday evening's EU Council presidency meeting in Budapest, only 8 countries sent their ministers. Additionally, several EU ambassadors have urged a boycott of unofficial meetings of foreign ministers in Budapest by the end of August.
