Chechen Refugee Sheikh-Ahmed Musayev Released from Detention Center in France

Sheikh-Ahmed Musayev, a 45-year-old man from Chechnya, has been released from a deportation center in France and ordered to report to the police station twice a week.

It should be noted that recently, the country's authorities revoked his refugee status, and now plans are being made for his deportation to Russia.

Musayev was detained on June 25 in Strasbourg, where he was taken to the immigration department of the police at the airport and held for 24 hours, SIA reports citing foreign media.

Subsequently, he spent another two days in the deportation detention center. Only after that was he able to modify his detention conditions to include the obligation not to change his residence and to report to the police twice a week.

Musayev left Russia in 2007 with his family, arriving in France via Egypt and Austria. In 2012, he obtained refugee status due to persecution threats by the Russian authorities.

In addition to being an advisor to Masadov's advisors, Musayev has taken on leadership roles in the Austrian Chechen and Ingush Council and has started participating in the activities of the European Chechen Assembly.

"Our family takes an active stance against the Kadyrov regime, which is why I consider deportation to Russia a life-threatening situation," Musayev stated, further emphasizing that he has lodged an appeal against the deportation decision.

In January, the International Amnesty Organization called on European Union countries not to extradite refugees from the North Caucasus to Russia.

Human rights activists report that those deported face torture, coercion, or being sent to fight against Ukraine.
