Canada expands sanctions list against Russia, adds two physical and six legal entities

The Canadian Foreign Ministry has announced that it has expanded its sanctions list against Russia, adding two physical and six legal entities.

The list includes two high-ranking representatives of Russian companies who were involved in the transfer of weapons from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to Russia, SIA reports with reference to foreign media.

The Canadian government has stated that these individuals were involved in activities that undermine the country's security and stability. The six legal entities added to the list include companies that have been involved in illegal activities such as money laundering and terrorist financing.

The West has imposed sanctions on Russia since 2022, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. One of the measures included freezing the Central Bank's gold-reserve fund, which is estimated to be worth around $300 billion. The US and European Union have also begun to explore legal ways to seize Russian assets that are still active.

The Canadian government has stated that it will continue to take steps to counter Russia's aggressive actions and to protect its own interests.
