Formula 2 sprint race highlights second day of Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The second day of the Formula 1 (F1) Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku kicks off today, featuring an exciting program that includes the third F1 practice session, qualifying rounds, and sprint races in Formula 2 (F2), SİA reports.

On the first day of the Grand Prix, F1 practice sessions and F2 practice and qualifying rounds took place, with victories claimed by Lando Norris (McLaren), Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Alex Dunne (Rodin), and Jak Crawford (DAMS).

The race track, where 20 drivers from 10 teams compete for the top positions, spans six kilometers and runs through the heart of Baku, showcasing some of the city’s most beautiful locations. Special attention was given to the track layout to highlight these landmarks.

One of the longest circuits on the F1 calendar, the Baku track features 20 turns. Starting at Azadlıq Square, it winds past the Government House, loops around the historic Inner City for a 2.2-kilometer stretch, and reaches the Caspian coastline before returning to the starting point along Neftçilər Avenue. The track’s widest section measures 13 meters, while the narrowest stretches around the Inner City, including the seventh and eighth turns, are 7.6 meters wide. The counterclockwise circuit was designed by renowned German architect Hermann Tilke.

During the race, both drivers and millions of television viewers will enjoy views of the UNESCO-listed Inner City, Baku’s modern architectural landmarks, and the Caspian shoreline.

The start and finish lines are located at Azadlıq Square, which also hosts the Paddock Club, team garages, and the pit lane.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will conclude on September 21.
