Azerbaijani chess player: "Giri is not a chess player who is easily defeated"

"Anish Giri is not an easily defeated chess player."

Azerbaijani chess player Nijat Abasov, who has advanced to the fourth round of the FIDE World Cup in Baku, said in a statement on the official website of the tournament, SIA reports.

Abasov said that the victory over the representative of the Netherlands, Anish Giri, gave him great confidence.

"I had a good position from the opening in the first game of the tie-break. But lack of time caused me to lose the game. After that, I definitely had to win the next game. Anish Giri is also not an easy chess player. I started the second game with a new idea. I attacked on the king's flank and was able to defeat the opponent with the right moves. It gave me a lot of confidence. Of course, the majority rightly saw Giri as the favorite in our duel. But there is no favorite in the tie-break. Chances are equal here.

We had consecutive draws in the blitz. I managed to win the last game. As my opponent's time decreased, my confidence increased. The opponent's lack of time created issues for him. I won and went to the next round."

The chess player defeated Anish Giri (Netherlands) in a tie-break match.

Nijat Abasov will face Peter Svidler in the fourth round (1/16 final of the Men's World Cup). The opening game of the fourth round will take place on August 9.
