Global architects showcase innovative projects at Baku International Architecture Competition - PHOTOS
An exhibition featuring projects from architects around the world opened at the Baku International Mugham Center as part of the seventh Baku International Architecture Competition, organized by the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, SİA reports.
The event began with participants paying respects at the Alley of Honor, visiting the graves of national leader Heydar Aliyev and academician Zarifa Aliyeva, followed by a trip to Martyrs’ Lane to honor those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s freedom and territorial integrity.
State officials and representatives from various ministries attended the exhibition, which highlights the growing prominence of the competition on the global architecture stage.
Elbay Qasımzadə, chairman of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, noted that the competition has been held every two years since 2013 and has earned recognition as one of the world’s top-ranked architecture contests, supported by the International Union of Architects (UIA). He emphasized that the jury, made up of internationally renowned architects, ensures a high standard of quality and diversity in the submissions.
Over the years, the jury has included prominent architects from Lebanon, Greece, the United States, Sudan, France, Malaysia, Angola, South Korea, Hong Kong, Turkey, Italy, Chile, South Africa, and India. This year, the competition received 270 entries from 38 countries, reflecting the event’s growing global reach.
From 2013 to 2023, the competition has attracted more than 1,200 projects from 53 countries, with winners hailing from Portugal, France, the United States, Slovenia, Georgia, Japan, Russia, Morocco, Croatia, Italy, Bangladesh, Spain, Ukraine, Germany, Vietnam, Singapore, Kyrgyzstan, Greece, Malaysia, South Africa, Egypt, China, Iran, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mexico, Romania, Poland, India, Brazil, and Azerbaijan.
The combination of a distinguished international jury and the high-quality, diverse, and functional nature of the submitted projects reinforces the competition’s significance in shaping contemporary architecture worldwide.
