Azerbaijan drafts bill on paid paternity leave

Azerbaijan is preparing a draft bill that will introduce paid paternity leave, said Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children's Affairs, at the High-Level Meeting to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, held at the UN headquarters in New York, SİA informs.

Muradova also noted that the number of sectors where women's labor is restricted in Azerbaijan has been significantly reduced. Legal frameworks on domestic violence, child marriage, and consanguineous marriage have been improved, and exceptions to the legal marriage age have been abolished.

She emphasized that these reforms aim to protect women's rights and strengthen ties between families and society.

Highlighting the lasting impact of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, Muradova reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to the goals of equality, development, and peace.

She noted that significant reforms have been implemented in Azerbaijan over the past 30 years to empower women in education, healthcare, employment, and decision-making.

Muradova added that modern infrastructure, smart cities and villages, digital services, and incubation programs in the liberated territories are helping to provide equal opportunities for all.

The High-Level Meeting was dedicated to "Recommitting to, resourcing and accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls."
