National Competition Forum Held in Baku Under Initiative of Ministry of Economy
Mamad Abbasbayli, Head of the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control, stated the purpose of the National Competition Forum this year and in coming years is to create a premier platform for the most important local and global discussions and sincere dialogue, SIA reports referencing AZERTAC.
He emphasized that a key goal of the economic competition authority is the comprehensive implementation of adopted competition legislation, whose main driving force lies in the outcomes it will yield, crucial for ensuring sustainable development. The forum provides a unique opportunity to discuss current issues with a broad audience within the country. In the future, this platform will serve as a venue for discussing the development of competitive policies, enhancing economic competitiveness, and of course, ongoing economic development issues.
"Mamad Abbasbayli noted, 'Last year, as a result of the clarification and improvement of the procurement process, our country saved 742 million manats in state funds. I hope that with the complete digitization of this year's procurement process, this amount will increase even more.'"
Deputy Minister of Economy Anar Akhundov pointed out that the implementation of the Competition Code will expand opportunities for effective regulation in various sectors and markets. As a result, favorable business environments will be established for entrepreneurs in those markets. Alongside ensuring competition, attracting new investments will lead to the creation of new production facilities, the opening of workplaces, and a significant increase in employment levels.
"The Competition Code encompasses extensive regulatory mechanisms aimed at facilitating the development of small and medium-sized businesses, easing their market entry. The dynamic, inclusive, and robust support of the new competition policy will create additional opportunities for revitalizing our liberated areas, increasing the number of market participants, enhancing the competitiveness of local enterprises, and expanding the implementation of innovation and digitalization within the private sector," said Anar Akhundov.
Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, Chingiz Asgarov, mentioned that functions related to the implementation of the Competition Code will be carried out in administrative courts. Information and educational activities will be conducted in these courts: "Highly professional judges operate in administrative courts. I am confident that there will be no problems with the implementation of the Competition Code; the document will be successfully applied."
Other speakers at the event shared their views on issues raised during the forum.
The forum continued with panel sessions on "The Economic Impact of Competition Policy" and "The Role of Courts and Legal System in Implementing Competition Policy."
