Azerbaijan's State Commission lends clarity to the issue of whether Natig Gasimov's body was found in mass grave in Khojaly or not
Azerbaijan's State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons clarified the issue of whether or not Natig Gasimov's body was found in the mass grave in Khojaly region (former Asgaran region), said Eldar Samadov, Deputy Head of the working group of Azerbaijan's State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, told APA.
He said that the searches for all Azerbaijani citizens who went missing in the I Karabakh War are ongoing: “The State Commission continues searches for all Azerbaijani citizens who went missing during the I Garabagh War, as well as for Natig Gasimov. Unfortunately, the State Commission does not possess the information on Natig Gasimov’s burial place. However, it can be assumed that his corpse was buried in Khojaly district (former Asgaran).”
After losing six of his comrades during military operations, Natig Gasimov remained besieged in the Albanian church, which he defended alone for five days, resisting the Armenians and not surrendering. The brave fighter agrees to surrender after Armenians threaten to kill 22 hostages in Khojaly.
On the 6th day after his bullet ran out on March 12, 1992, he was captured by the Armenian military which was witnessed by Russian and Italian journalists - Konstantin Smirnov and Enrico Sarzi. The fact of his capture was published in the article titled "Strax" in issues 14 and 15 of 1992 of "Ogonyok" magazine published in Russia.
