The Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the UN Office in Azerbaijan have signed a joint declaration on cooperation in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. According to SIA, the document was signed by the executive of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations.
According to the declaration, the NGO Agency and the UN Office in Azerbaijan will mobilize NGOs to promote and implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, increase the institutional capacity of organizations in the regions, expand access to technical and financial resources for NGOs and cooperate in other areas. In addition, the parties will work to create conditions for the participation of NGOs in the initiatives of reconstruction, restoration and peace building in the country, as well as the safe and voluntary return of IDPs to the regions of Azerbaijan after the conflict.
Speaking at the event, Executive Director Aygun Aliyeva said that within the framework of the signed declaration, the NGO Agency and the UN will work together to increase accountability and transparency of NGOs, strengthen the institutional capacity of the Agency for State Support to NGOs to support the NGO sector in Azerbaijan. "In addition to strategic cooperation to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the Parties and the "Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development" approved by the President of Azerbaijan on February 2, 2021, we also believe that this document will be effective in the future to continue the achievements and sustainability of post-Covid-19 restoration work, along with key areas of common interest. We are confident that we will fulfill all of the Agency's responsibilities in this regard." Aliyeva stated.
Noting the important role of non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the UN-Azerbaijan Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, Resident Coordinator Vladanka Andreeva noted that the signed declaration marked the beginning of a new partnership between the UN Office in Azerbaijan and the NGO Agency. Ms.Andreeva said that a working group consisting of representatives of both organizations will be established to specify the joint activities and develop a work plan.
