Dr. Mirjalal Kazimi’s field of expertise encompasses a wide range of complex surgical procedures. At the Central Customs Hospital, he performs general surgery, liver and kidney transplantation for adults and children using organs from both living and deceased donors, as well as surgical procedures involving the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, adrenal glands, oesophagus, stomach and duodenum, colon and rectum. He also performs surgical treatment of anterior abdominal wall hernias.

A Pioneer in Healthcare
In February 2025, Dr. Mirjalal Kazimi, together with transplant surgeon Kamran Beydullayev, successfully performed a liver transplant using an organ from a deceased donor on Manzar Sharifova, who suffered from liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis B and hepatitis D and did not have a living donor available. Some time later, a kidney from a deceased donor was transplanted into Fuad Nuriev. These procedures marked a first in the history of Azerbaijan’s healthcare system.
State Recognition for Longstanding and Dedicated Service
In accordance with the Order “On Awarding Healthcare Workers of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr Ilham Aliyev, Dr Mirjalal Mirkazim oglu Kazimi was awarded the “Progress” Medal (“Tərəqqi”) in recognition of his longstanding, productive service and contributions to the country’s healthcare sector.
Extensive Experience in Organ Transplantation
Dr. Mirjalal Kazimi has been working in the field of liver and kidney transplantation for many years. He is recognised as the transplant surgeon who successfully performed Azerbaijan’s first liver transplant. To date, he has successfully carried out more than 1,000 organ transplantation procedures.
The Journey from Education to Professional Excellence
Dr. Mirjalal Kazimi’s professional career is built on continuous education, dedication and a commitment to lifelong learning.
From 1994 to 2000, he received his medical degree from the Faculty of General Medicine at Azerbaijan Medical University. In 2000–2001, he completed an internship in general surgery at the M. Naghiyev Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medical Care.
To further develop his professional expertise, he studied at the Department of Surgery and Organ Transplantation at the Faculty of Medicine of Ege University in Türkiye from 2003 to 2008, earning specialist qualifications.
From 2007 to 2009, he further advanced his expertise in liver and kidney transplantation at the Department of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation of Ege University’s Faculty of Medicine. During this period, he also served as the person responsible for the Organ Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery Unit.
International Experience and Continuous Professional Development
Dr. Mirjalal Kazimi places particular emphasis on international experience and modern medical advancements in his professional practice.
From 2009 to 2010, he worked in the field of liver transplantation at Kent Hospital in Izmir, Türkiye. In 2012, he participated in a training programme in hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea.
The experience he gained at leading medical centres around the world remains an important part of his professional development.
Dedication to the Profession and Modern Medical Approaches
Dr. Mirjalal Kazimi closely follows developments in medicine, studies new technologies and modern treatment approaches, and applies the knowledge he acquires in his daily clinical practice.
In 2008, Mirjalal Kazimi began working as a surgeon in the Endoscopic Surgery Department of a state medical institution. Within a short period, he played an important role in establishing the Department of Surgery and Organ Transplantation, where he continued working until 2018.
Since 2018, he has continued his professional career at the Department of Surgery and Organ Transplantation of the Central Customs Hospital as a transplant surgeon and general surgeon.
