Lithuania recalls its ambassador in Russia

A draft decree on the recall of the Lithuanian Ambassador in Russia on June 1 and on the closure of the Lithuanian Consulate General in St. Petersburg on June 7 has been submitted to the Lithuanian Seimas (Parliament), Report informs via foreign media.

“Release Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Russian Federation Eitvydas Bajarunas from his post from June 1, 2022,” reads the document.

Reportedly, the draft was prepared by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to another document, Lithuania is also going to shut down its Consulate General in St. Petersburg on June 7, 2022.

Earlier, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that the Baltic country was lowering the level of diplomatic relations with Russia, and was also going to return its ambassador from Moscow. The Russian consulate in Klaipeda, Lithuania’s third-largest city, has also been closed.
