Deghati: Armenia tried to hinder transfer of real information about Khojaly tragedy

The Armenian side tried to hinder the transfer of real information about the Khojaly tragedy, well-known French photojournalist Reza Deghati told Report.

He said that having witnessed all the horrors committed by the Armenians in Khojaly, he considered it his duty to tell the world about it, and the Armenian public tried to hinder it as much as possible. Among the many measures taken by them were invasions of his exhibitions, which showed real footage of those events, with attempts to destroy these photos. However, Azerbaijan is doing a lot of work to achieve justice for the Khojaly tragedy, Deghati notes.

The photojournalist also spoke about some of the stories he witnessed. In particular, after what happened in Khojaly, since he was not allowed into the city itself, he went to Aghdam, where the bodies of dead people were brought.

“I saw a tragedy: hundreds of people who fled from Khojaly gathered there. Everyone cried, ran and was in shock,” Reza Deghati said, recalling the events that happened 30 years ago. “There were also many corpses. Many of them were not just shot, their bodies were mutilated. They were tortured.”

Reza Deghati spoke about a woman who used to come to the morgue every day looking for her son. One day she ran out of the morgue screaming that she had found his body with his eyes gouged out. The photographer noted that later one of the doctors told him that the guy’s eyes were gouged out while he was still alive, as evidenced by traces of heavy bleeding from the eye sockets.
