Spanish expert stated on the victory of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's victory in the war in September-November 2020 was a great diplomatic success for Russia, Turkey's advance in the field of regional influence and the justification of Azerbaijani irredentism, which managed to retake the territory inhabited by about 900,000 Azerbaijanis.

Spanish military expert Willy Pulido told this to Axar.az while talking about what role will Azerbaijan's victory in the Karabakh war play in shifting the order of the South Caucasus and the Middle East.

According to the expert, so that there was a war, which implied that the ties between Azerbaijan and Turkey became very close it seemed that it implied a great defeat of Russia to maintain dominance:

"The Russian position was to try to prevent war from breaking out to prevent Turkey from gaining positions in the Caucasus. According to Lavrov himself, Armenia had committed itself to a phased peace process, based on the principles of peace by territories. However, the Pashinyan government was moving away from that process so as not to have to hand over territories. This did not benefit Russian interests, as it pushed Azerbaijan to the protection and support of Turkey.

However, the final peace agreement, negotiated exclusively by Putin with Aliyev and Pashinyan, leaving Erdogan and the Minsk Group aside, was a great final Russian victory, since it prevents the deployment of large Turkish military contingents in the territory of the former Soviet Union.

Despite the final Russian diplomatic victory, there is no doubt that the Turkish-Azeri friendship has been strengthened, and Turkey has gained positions in the region, which has made the Iranians nervous. Although France and Greece have a conflict with Truquia, indirectly the West and NATO have won with the victory of Azerbaijan, since alternative gas supplies to Russia, such as the defunct Nabucco gas pipeline, can play a positive role in diversifying sources of energy supplies."

Expert also added that the above is not a common opinion among the Spanish public:

"In Spain, knowledge about the Caucasus and the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is practically nil. In general, the Spanish public was very in favour of Armenia, simply because it is a Christian country and identifies Azerbaijan as a Muslim country. In Spain, it is unknown that Azerbaijan is a secular and very modern country."
