An article "Where to travel first after quarantine? Go to a country that does not exist" authored by Alex Ledsom was published in Forbes magazine on August 9. In the article, along with various declining and so-called countries, the author also recommended visits to occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and Abkhazia.
Axar.az informs this was reported by the Center for Analysis of International Relations. It was noted that the Center sent a letter of protest to Forbes magazine regarding the article:
Fuad Chicagov, head of the International Relations Analysis Center, addressed a letter of protest to the editors of Forbes magazine on behalf of the centre. In his appeal, Chiragov said that the comparison of the above-mentioned places with the currently illegally occupied territories is unacceptable and the article serves to confuse the international community.
A UN official told Forbes that those visiting the occupied territories have responsibilities under Azerbaijani law and that the occupying regimes are involved in the illegal exploitation of the property of people expelled from those territories.
As a result of this appeal, Forbes made a corresponding change in the column, removing parts of the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and Abkhazia from the article and making a special note. It is emphasized in the note that these areas are conflict zones and therefore visits to the region are not recommended.
