Russian political scientist: “People politically and publicly more active could be elected to the parliament”
“I will be visiting Azerbaijan as part of a delegation of an international observation mission,” said Director of the Russian Institute of Political Studies, political scientist Sergey Markov commenting on the parliamentary elections to Milli Majlis (Parliament) scheduled for February 9, 2020.
“We have a “Civil Dialogue” observation mission that visits a number of countries and monitors elections.
Usually, the observation mission includes representatives of several countries as Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Poland,” Markov said.
Sergey Markov noted that a delegation of Russian observers will also arrive in Azerbaijan. “The delegation includes members of the State Duma, the Federation Council, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, and famous experts,” he added.
“There are expectations that the composition of the parliament would significantly be rejuvenated. People politically and publicly more active could be elected to the parliament. I hope that our friends we work with, including in PACE, would be elected to the new parliament,” the political scientist said.
Sergey Markov also mentioned that holding early parliamentary elections would contribute to rejuvenation of political elite, which he described as a right and necessary decision.
