More Russian forces arrive in Syria under deal with Turkey Peace Spring

Around 300 more Russian military police have arrived in Syria, the defence ministry said on Friday, under an accord between Ankara and Moscow.

The deal, reached on Tuesday by Presidents Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, requires that Russian military police and Syrian border guards remove all YPK/PKK terrorists from within 30 km of the Turkish border by next Tuesday.

The military police, from the southern Russian region of Chechnya, will patrol and help with the withdrawal of YPG/PKK forces and their weapons to 30 km of the Syrian-Turkish border, Interfax news agency reported the ministry as saying.

"US should hand YPG/PKK ringleader over to Turkey" - Erdogan

The United States should handover YPG/PKK terrorist ringleader Ferhat Abdi Sahin, codenamed Mazloum Kobani, to Turkey, Turkish president has said in an exclusive interview with TRT World.

Speaking live on TRT, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the country has been harassed by terrorists in northern Syria for eight years.

Erdogan underlined that some NATO countries armed the YPG/PKK terror group, and that Germany, France and the US met the leaders of the terrorist organisation.

Reiterating that Turkey had no issues with Kurdish people, Erdogan said: "Kurds are our brothers, we do not have problems with them, we fight only terrorists."

Erdogan said the Operation Peace Spring was named so due to the existence of large numbers of springs to the east of the Euphrates River in northern Syria.

Pause in operation seems to be holding - UN envoy

A pause in Turkey's operation in northeast Syria seems to be holding "by and large", as major powers gather in Geneva ahead of the first meeting of Syria's Constitutional Committee next week, the UN Special Envoy told Reuters.

Geir Pedersen said that envoys from seven Arab and Western states backing the opposition, known as the "small group", which includes the United States, are due to meet in the Swiss city on Friday.

Senior officials from the Astana three - Russia, Iran and Turkey - were expected in coming days, but he awaited confirmation.

The major powers would not participate directly in the "Syrian-owned, Syrian-led" constitutional effort, or the opening public ceremony, but they supported the process, he said.

YPG as dangerous as Daesh – President Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday urged the world to understand the level of danger the YPG/PKK terror group poses.

"For democracy, rule of law and human rights, I invite the whole world to see, accept and take a position. YPG/PKK is as dangerous a terrorist organisation as Daesh," Erdogan said in the capital Ankara.

He reiterated that Turkey does not have any problem with its Kurdish brothers, but rather with terrorist organisations.

Erdogan also mentioned that a safe zone in northern Syria will allow nearly two million Syrian refugees to return to their homes.

He also said that if YPG terrorists do not withdraw as per agreement with Russia, Turkey will implement its plans for northern Syria.

"If we come across terrorists after we receive written confirmation of their departure from the Operation Peace Spring region from US, we have the right to topple them," Erdogan said while speaking in Turkey's capital Ankara.

President Erdogan also criticised world leaders' meeting with high ranking YPG militants, saying such moves hindered the battle against terrorism.

Briton who fought with PKK found guilty of terrorism charge

A British court has found a man guilty of attending a YPG/PKK terrorist training camp in Syria, the BBC reported on Thursday.

Aidan James, 28, denied terror charges but was found guilty at the Old Bailey of attending a camp in Iraq where the PKK terror group was present.

Five Turkish soldiers wounded

The Turkish Defence Ministry on Thursday reported that five military personnel were wounded in the border town of Ras al Ayn in an assault by YPG/PKK terrorists.

The attack was conducted using drones, mortars and light-weapons, the ministry reported, adding that Turkish armed forces had responded to the attacks in self-defence.

Car bomb in Tal Abyad

A car booby trapped with explosives also detonated, wounding four people, in northern Syria's Tal Abyad taken by Turkish-backed forces from YPG/PKK terrorists during Turkey's Peace Spring Operation, said a war monitoring group.

The blast went off outside the headquarters of Syrian fighters allied to Turkey, according to the SANA news agency and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which reported the injuries.
