Azerbaijan is going to take over the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement from Venezuela at the Ministerial Meeting of the XVIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku. According to SIA, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has presented the chairmanship to the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
Expressing his gratitude for the presidency in Azerbaijan, E. Mammadyarov said that, during his administration Azerbaijan will take necessary steps to improve the organization and strengthen ties between the member countries.
"Azerbaijan does not participate in any military cooperation and pursues an foreign independent policy. During the presidency of NAM of our country, will be given special attention to cooperation with the youth of the member states." Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said.
Mammadyarov emphasized that, The Youth Summit which will be held in parallel to our Meeting tomorrow brings together 40 outstanding representatives of youth from the Member States of the Movement.
The Minister said that, most of the NAM Member states are developing countries: "We will pay special attention to economic and security cooperation during our presidency."
''Azerbaijan has been pioneering and actively participating in regional economic projects and initiatives, such as East-West, North-South transport corridors, and is currently working on the South-West transport corridor project. Geographic location of many NAM Member States along these three corridors can contribute to further development of mutually beneficial cooperation among the Members of the Movement.'' E. Mammadyarov said.
Moreover Minister emphasized that, Azerbaijan is considered to be one of the world centers of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue. With its vast experience and best practices in this field Azerbaijan is keen to continue its efforts aimed at preserving and promoting cultural diversity which is one of the priorities of our Movement.
Mammadyarov underlined that the Non-Aligned Movement plays an important role in strengthening peace and security. He noted that, one of the main goals is to adapt the activity of organization to new realities.
