Azerbaijan, Algeria explore enhanced cooperation across bilateral and multilateral platforms

During his official visit to Algeria, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, met with Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, on November 4, SİA reports.

The two ministers began their discussions in a private meeting, followed by a wider exchange of views with the respective delegations from both countries.

The talks covered a range of issues central to Azerbaijan-Algeria relations, both bilaterally and in multilateral contexts. Topics included regional and global developments, with particular attention to the Middle East situation.

Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the current state of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Algeria, noting that their strong partnership is grounded in mutual trust and shared principles. They emphasized that regular reciprocal visits play a key role in strengthening the ties between the two nations.

Bayramov and Attaf highlighted the importance of the political consultations held earlier this year between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Algeria, underlining their role in advancing cooperation in a structured and comprehensive manner.

The ministers also reviewed the progress of their collaboration within international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). They discussed upcoming major events, including the OIC Summit and the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), both of which are set to take place in Baku in 2026.

The ministers explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, energy (particularly oil, gas, and renewables), as well as education, culture, and tourism. They recognized the potential for these areas to foster deeper people-to-people connections between the two nations.

Minister Bayramov also briefed his Algerian counterpart on the ongoing post-conflict developments in Azerbaijan and the extensive reconstruction efforts underway in the country’s recently liberated regions.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a bilateral agreement to establish a Joint Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation. This agreement is seen as a vital step in enhancing future collaboration between Azerbaijan and Algeria.
