The head of the Iranian judiciary has approved the sentence against 19-year-old protester Mohammad Burugani, rumors about the possible abolition of the execution and its replacement with imprisonment were not confirmed, SİA informs.
Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the Iranian Judiciary, announced that the death sentence given to Burugani was upheld by the Supreme Court.
In the news, Burugani, who was arrested during the demonstrations in Tehran, was found guilty of “attacking and causing injury to a security guard with intent to kill”, “disturbing public order”, “spreading fear and insecurity” and “setting a public building on fire”.
It was reported that Burugani’s sentence was later upheld by the Supreme Court and no new decision was taken in the case.
On the other hand, Amnesty International condemned the Supreme Court upholding the death sentence given to Mohammad Burugani.
In recent days, allegations that Burugani’s death sentence has been commuted to imprisonment and whipping have taken place on social media.
