Gallup: Azerbaijan is one of leading countries in economic hope index
According to Gallup International, economic optimism is high in Azerbaijan, SİA informs with reference to the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication.
Azerbaijan's position in the hope index is estimated at 53 points, which is 6 points higher than last year. At the same time, it is the third-best indicator after Indonesia and Albania. The Economic Hope Index is based on the expectations of the country's citizens for future economic prospects and is made with the results of a survey of citizens.
Economic hope indices have been steadily rising in recent years, especially in developing countries. Due to the pandemic, financial hopes have been subject to recessive trends globally. At the same time, the economic hopes of citizens for the future are highly valued globally. However, in some countries, various indirect causes (war, natural disasters, political crises, etc.) have significantly reduced citizens' economic expectations for the future. It is also noteworthy that the economic hope indices of the regions where political concerns continue are much lower.
Gallup International, operating since 1947, is an influential international organization specialized in conducting various social surveys and research around the world. The survey to determine the hope index has been conducted since the same year. The survey, led by the organization in October-December this year, covered 41,560 people in 44 countries. According to the study, 38% of respondents worldwide believe that 2022 will be better than 2021, 28% think 2022 will be more challenging, and 27% believe there will be no fundamental changes. Thus, the global economic hope index has decreased compared to last year.
The index is an important indicator of people's perceptions of their country's economic future. The methodology of this index is not based on the general welfare of the population but rather on financial expectations for the future. Yet, expectations for the future are formed on the basis of the current situation. From this point of view, since the index results are based on sociological surveys, it can be considered a reflection not only of the economic, but also of the current political, moral and psychological condition of the country's citizens. Azerbaijan's high results in the post-war period also reflect the results emerging from the military-political settlement of the conflict in the Karabakh region after many years of occupation.
In addition, Azerbaijan ranked 38th out of 172 countries in the 2021 Economic Freedom Index 2021, prepared by the Heritage Foundation. This year, the country is ranked 55th on the Sustainable Development Goals Index among 166 countries in the Sustainable Development Report 2021. At the same time, Azerbaijan has maintained its role in other rating reports published this year. For example, in the Global Firepower - 2021 World Military Strength Rankings, Azerbaijan ranked 63rd this year.
