Jabbarov: Azerbaijan may become exporter of data center services

Azerbaijan has the potential to become an exporter of data center services and provide these services to neighboring countries thanks to a stable investment climate, affordable and favorable energy prices, and well-developed telecommunications connections, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said in an interview with ITV and AZERTAC, SİA informs.

According to the minister, the data center sector will be one of the fastest-growing industries in the coming years.

"Following the President's meetings in January 2026 at the World Economic Forum in Davos and in February at the Munich Security Conference 2026, new projects with leading global technology partners, including data centers using artificial intelligence, will be officially announced in the coming months," the minister noted.

Jabbarov emphasized that Azerbaijan is committed to the coordinated development of artificial intelligence and data center infrastructure. He recalled that the country has a Digital Development Council, and data center development is a priority.

According to him, the demand for data centers is linked not only to the economy but also to the growth of digital government services for citizens, and this need will increase annually.

The minister also noted that digitalization has ceased to be a separate sector of the economy and has become a fundamental condition for competitiveness: "Today, it is difficult to find leading companies in energy, transport, industry, or agriculture that maintain a competitive advantage without using digitalization and Artificial Intelligence."

Jabbarov announced that, as part of the Digital Economy Development Support Program adopted in December 2025, digital transformation roadmaps will be developed and implemented for 15 selected enterprises in 2026.

He also noted the growing demand for supercomputer infrastructure: "Today, requests from government agencies and the private sector for the use of the Ministry of Economy's supercomputer already exceed its technical capabilities. This demonstrates the rapid implementation of artificial intelligence-based solutions in the economy, science, education, healthcare, taxation, and customs."

According to the minister, human capital is a key factor in digital transformation, and the development of artificial intelligence requires deeper collaboration between universities, research institutions, and international partners.
