Minister: Azerbaijan plans to build 2.7 GW of wind, solar power plants by 2030

Azerbaijan plans to construct wind and solar power plants with a total capacity of 2.7 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, in line with the grid's maximum integration potential, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said during the second day of Baku Climate Action Week 2025 (BCAW2025), SİA informs.

He stated that this initiative will triple the country's annual renewable energy capacity to 4 GW and prevent 3.2 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year: "Over the next two years, 10 new power plants will be integrated into the grid. To manage 2 GW of renewable energy, battery systems with 250 MW capacity and 500 MWh of storage will be deployed. One of these plants-the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant-is scheduled to be commissioned in November."

The minister also noted that by 2030, energy generation capacity in Karabakh and East Zangazur will reach 1.6 GW through hydro, solar, wind power stations, and rooftop solar panels: "These projects will enable the region to produce twice as much green electricity as it consumes, reducing emissions by over 2 million tons. Developing these areas as Green Energy Zones provides strong support for climate action."
