Azerbaijan plays important role in Europe's energy security - Hungarian Ambassador
Azerbaijan plays an important role in Europe's energy security, said the Ambassador of Hungary to Azerbaijan, Tamás Torma, at the International Scientific Conference on "Innovative Paths to a Greener Future: Renewable Energy and Emission Reduction: Identifying Common Cooperation Points" held at ADA University, APA reports.
The ambassador spoke about Azerbaijan's significant role in ensuring Europe's energy security.
The diplomat mentioned that his country is interested in using alternative energy sources and further developing this sector: "We believe that Azerbaijan plays an important role not only in the Central European region but also in the energy security of Europe as a whole. The 'Green Energy Corridor' project is also significant in terms of ensuring Europe's energy security. Hungary is interested in securing its energy security through renewable energy sources. As a result, several projects on wind energy use are being implemented in our country. These measures serve to end energy dependence and ensure security in this area. I believe that dialogue between governments will contribute to ensuring energy stability."
Sadig Qurbanov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology, stated that Azerbaijan's onshore energy sources amount to 135 gigawatts, while its offshore sources are 157 gigawatts. Azerbaijan will produce 6 gigawatts of solar and wind energy by 2030.
He emphasized that the transition of each country to green economy and green energy is of crucial importance not only from an ecological perspective but also for political and economic security.
The event also included a detailed exchange of views on the interest of participating countries in alternative energy sources, as well as the promotion of these types of energy resources.
The conference continued its work with panel discussions.
