Gallant: Israel could launch an offensive against Hezbollah at any moment

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said his country was ready to reach an agreement with Hezbollah if it withdrew its fighters from the border, but warned the Lebanese militant group that Israel could launch a new offensive "in a second".

"If Hezbollah wants to reach an agreement with us and accept to leave the border line and the areas outside Litani with their forces, as stipulated by the UN resolution, we will deal with them," Gallant said during a visit to soldiers in northern Israel.

The defense chief added that otherwise Israel is ready for action regardless of the situation in Gaza. Hezbollah has previously said it will stop fighting Israel once a ceasefire deal is reached in Gaza.

Israel has publicly insisted on full implementation of the UN Security Council resolution that ended the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.

That means Hezbollah must move its fighters north of the Litani River, which is more than 20 kilometers north of the border.
