UN meeting on Afghanistan commences in Qatar's capital, Doha

The United Nations Organization's session on Afghanistan has commenced in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The meeting, attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, highlights the absence of the Taliban administration from the discussions, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, SIA reports citing Turkish media.

Information provided by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveals that the Afghan government declined to participate in the meeting, despite being invited.

The news, featured on the website of Qatar-based "Al-Jazeera" television, underscores the Afghan government's reluctance to engage in the gathering.

The first UN session on Afghanistan held in Doha in May 2023 did not extend an invitation to the Taliban administration.
