Samaddin Asadov, the Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan’s Space Agency (Azercosmos) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, has been elected as the Vice President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), SİA informs, citing the agency.
The decision was made today during the General Assembly meeting of the IAF at the Milan Congress. After discussions, the IAF bureau and committee members supported Asadov's candidacy.
"This appointment is another clear indicator of our country's high reputation in the regional and international arena. This achievement, which is considered a high accomplishment for our country, is a continuation of Azerbaijan's successes in the space field, the agency stated.
The vice-president post, which is considered the first high-ranking position in the space field among Turkic nations, will enhance Azerbaijan's role as a bridge between developed and developing countries in the space industry.
Representation in the bureau will strengthen cooperation between IAF members through Azerbaijan's ties with the world's space industry leaders and policymakers. The bureau is the main executive body of the IAF.
The vice president's primary responsibilities include presiding over plenary sessions of the General Assembly, congresses, symposiums, and other meetings of the IAF, providing recommendations to the space institutions that are members of the IAF, as well as overseeing the preparation of the annual financial report to the General Assembly, appointing committees within the IAF, and strengthening cooperation among members.
Asadov's activity as vice president in the global organization will allow Azerbaijan to voice its achievements in the space field from a higher platform, further solidifying its position as a rising space nation.
