The United States has delivered the first nine US-made Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAVs) to Romania.
According to SİA, citing the press service of the US Embassy in Romania, Romanian military personnel have begun learning to operate the new vehicles under the guidance of expert advisers from the US Marine Corps.
"US Ambassador to Romania Darryl Nirenberg visited the training area in Babadag, Tulcea County, to observe the 307th Marine Regiment preparing for an important stage of modernization," the diplomatic mission said.
The AAV7A1 amphibious assault vehicles are designed to transport up to 21 Marines and their equipment from military ships to shore.
The US diplomat also highlighted the strength of the strategic partnership between the United States and Romania.
In July 2023, the Pentagon said the US State Department had approved the sale to Romania of 16 amphibious assault vehicles and related equipment worth $120.5 million.
