Venice day-trippers will have to make reservations and pay fee

Venice officials on Friday unveiled new rules for day-trippers, which will be in effect from 16 January 2023.

Tourists who choose not to stay overnight in hotels or other lodgings will have to sign up online for the day they plan to come and pay a fee, ranging from €3 to €10 a person, depending on advance booking and whether it is peak season or the city is very crowded, SIA cites foreign media.

According to information, the rules will not apply to tourists staying overnight in the city, children under 6 years old, those staying in hotels, visiting local residents as guests, and students.

In October 2019, the Venice City Council decided to charge an entrance fee for one-day visitors to the city from the summer of 2020. However, the said rules were not implemented in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
